Often we think about what we eat, our weight, and the amount of exercise we are getting. Many of us do more than just think about these things, we obsess. It’s not all bad. There is an obesity problem in the United States. The more aware we are of our health, the better. My motto (well, I don’t think I can take credit for it) definitely applies here, everything in moderation.
Many of us are thinking: How is my diet? How many calories did I eat today? How is my weight? Am I getting enough exercise? Am I in shape? How is my blood pressure, my cholesterol? Do I drink too much? And we don’t always like the answers.
I am certainly no exception to our culture’s health obsession. I love to cook, eat, and drink, but I also love to exercise. In fact, I get crabby if I don’t exercise. Exercise is a great stress reliever and time to meditate on life’s challenges at home and the office. For me, a competitive person, exercise is a great way to channel that energy as well.
I’ve decided to put my obsession to work, focusing on promoting the ‘active lifestyle’ not only for people obsessed, but also for those who are simply interested in finding a new activity or a social outlet. My site, this site, will have content from experts on various topics around eating, training, and exercise in general as part of this site.
Being an active person can mean about anything – sports leagues or clubs, joining a gym, taking walks through the park, or going to the dog park with your favorite four-legged friend. In addition to running short races, playing golf, occasionally playing tennis, and going to the gym, I like to walk, run, and go to the dog park with Bodie, my Blue Heeler. For my fellow dog lovers, having a four-legged family member can really help you keep your activity level up, especially if they are anything like Bodie.
This brings me to another part of my obsession, the distance I walk or run a day. The map tool, which will continue to evolve with help from you, allows you to calculate the distance you walk or run, whether at home or on a business trip. See the Fireball Beat Map post for more information on the map.
As I mentioned, this site is a tool to help people live a healthy and active lifestyle while meeting others with similar interests. Just don’t obsess too much!
