The map tool is meant to be an easy, useful tool for mapping running/walking/biking routes. While it’s not perfect, we feel it does the trick better than most. A common question we get is “Can I use it if I don’t live in Indiana?” The answer is definitely, it is built using Google Maps, so it works no matter where you are located. Fireball Beat has plans to enhance the map features for users based on recommendations and input.
The manual function allows you to trace your favorite routes or any recent treks you have conquered or plan to do. The FB pins connect points via the road network provided by Google maps, giving you the distance traveled along the road. The Fireball pin connects points with a straight-line and does not depend on the road network. They allow you to measure short cuts and off road routes including parks, trails, or paths between neighborhoods.
The auto function allows you to put in an approximate distance, which the map uses to create suggested routes. It does not give you the exact distance you requested, but should be relatively close. The suggested routes might give you a new route near home or give you ideas when traveling. If you choose a route of the four generated, but think it would be better with slight modifications, you can always manipulate the route to suit your needs with the manual function. At this time, you can not manipulate auto generate routes, but Fireball Beat hopes this will be doable soon.
Both the manual and auto function maps have reset buttons, so you can start-over at any point.
Fireball Beat hopes you find the tool useful, and if you have suggestions for improvements please email map@fireballbeat.com. We are continually trying to improve the map and plan to enable users to save and share routes in the future.
